Actor Yul Edochie Discourages Nigerians From Protesting Over Hardship After Meeting With Tinubu’s Son
However, the controversial actor whose father, Pete Edochie is a veteran Nigerian actor, made the call on Friday on his X (formerly Twitter) account, barely 24 hours after meeting with President Tinubu’s son, Seyi.
Popular Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has called on Nigerians to shun the upcoming ‘Days of Rage’ nationwide protest against exacerbating hunger, economic hardship and misgovernance under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The protest, tagged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria, which aims to address the country’s governance challenges, has been scheduled for August 2024.
However, the controversial actor whose father, Pete Edochie is a veteran Nigerian actor, made the call on Friday on his X (formerly Twitter) account, barely 24 hours after meeting with President Tinubu’s son, Seyi.
Although, Yul said he acknowledged the hardship in the country and the situation of things, he feared that the protest might be hijacked by hoodlums who would use the opportunity to wreak havoc and destroy people’s belongings.
He wrote: “It’s affecting everyone. I believe all will be well. Protest is not the answer.
“People take advantage of protests to break into other people’s shops, steal, destroy properties, hurt and kill innocent Nigerians who are already going through a lot.
“In the end the aim of the protest will be defeated,” he stated, citing the #Endsars protest of the 2020. The protest which was decentralised social movement and witnessed series of mass protests against police brutality in Nigeria especially the activities of the notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), was later turned into violence.
“Remember what happened during End Sars. Protest is not the answer.
Let’s be patient. Let’s keep speaking out and doing all we can to help out.”
He, however, stated that President Tinubu “listens”, adding that “he’s doing all he can to put make things right.”
“Fellow Nigerians, let’s be patient,” Yul said.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Yul shared pictures of himself and Seyi on his X account, stating that they had a wonderful meeting on upcoming projects for Nigerian youths.
He said the project tagged, “RELAX, JAGABAN WILL FIX NIGERIA movement,” had been endorsed by Seyi Tinubu.
He wrote: “With my brother, the first son of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Seyi Tinubu.
“We had a wonderful, meeting as he endorsed the RELAX, JAGABAN WILL FIX NIGERIA movement.
“Lots of life changing projects for the youths and all Nigerians hitting the ground soon.
“Great plans ahead.”
Meanwhile, some Nigerians have lambasted him, warning him against denigrating the name of his family which his father had built over the years, even before his birth.
For instance, Odogwu with X handle @lonewolfgadfly wrote: “Your father is a highly respected man all over Nigeria, Africa and the entire known world.
“That’s because he built a reputation for himself over the years and put the Edochie family name on the ‘world map.’ So, the reputation your father started building even before you were born is what you have put yourself on a mission to destroy? See how you are intentionally staining your white.
“While you have your fundamental human right to free association, please respect the sensibilities of the numerous Nigerians going through the serious hardship that Tinubu and his cohorts have caused nigeria at this time.
“Oga abeg! Show some respect to your family.”
