Job Summary

Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc is seeking a Head of Fleet Operations to become an integral part of our team.

The successful candidate will be adept in managing logistics and fleet operations, with a keen focus on cost management, customer satisfaction, health and safety, and the timely delivery of materials and finished goods to end-users. This includes the provision and maintenance of trucks for operational purposes.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Prepare the annual Transport Budget and ensure overall fleet performance by consistently evaluating all functions and staff. This includes gathering feedback from the Refinery, Sales & Marketing, Supply Chain, etc.
  • Supervise all transport-related activities in the Company, including coordinating daily loading activities and deliveries. Maintain metrics, reports, process documentation, customer service logs, training, and safety records.
  • Track and monitor the movement of trucks to and from the Refineries/Customers/Warehouses to ensure that truck delivery schedules (TAT) are always maintained.
  • Ensure that staff are highly motivated and provided with training opportunities to support their overall development.
  • Lead health and safety efforts and accident prevention. This includes regularly inspecting and repairing trucks, conducting preventive maintenance, and ensuring vehicles have up-to-date licensing and complete documentation.
  • Implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining good facility management. This covers general fleet operations, workshops, truck park, fuel dump, etc.
  • Responsible for overall logistics planning to achieve OTIFIC (On time, in full, invoiced correctly).
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate logistics with business systems or processes, such as customer sales, order management, accounting, production, or shipping.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in the Logistics and Transport Industry, with at least 10 years in a Management position.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Social Science, Transportation, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Accounting, Management, etc.
  • Membership of the Institute of Transport and Logistics and other relevant professional bodies.
  • Hands-on experience in Transportation & Logistics and knowledge of relevant Enterprise solutions (e.g., SAP).
  • Proficiency in route planning, road management, and HSSE processes and practices.
  • People management skills (excellent leadership and team-building skills, and knowledge of career management processes).
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial information and performance results.
  • Analytical with good decision-making skills.
